Finishing

Because i was worried with the standards of work i was recieing from other members in my group i wanted to do the editing by myself. Steve finally helped me with last minute editing and Jess and Josh did the credits.

Overall the experience had taught me to work in a group, but it also has encouraged me to work by myself for my third year film.

Helping with the Animation

When i received the Animation, it was given to me in a Quicktime (mov) video format. Steve had done the Animation in flash and had compressed all the alpha channels together an d he was away for a week due to a family event. The only way i could separate the plan backgrounds was to load the footage on Photoshop and delete the Background. Then another problem happened, the footage was important frame by frame and didnt have the right timing. So i needed to Edit the Frames, Delete the plane Backgrounds with timing and then merge the Backgrounds and Animation in Photoshop.

1st scene with the son opening the had the wrong perspective with the door opening, the door knob was flat and the characters movements were robot like.

Long Hard Progress (Backgrounds)

Animatic (has timing issues)


I had been waiting for Backgrounds from Jess and Josh for about 2-3 weeks but still didnt receive any. Jess had told me she was working on the character design on the child and the dad. I managed to get Backgrounds from Josh but these were of poor quality. So i asked him to help Steve with the Animation (father) and ill do the layouts. Jess completed her turn around 2 weeks later, but she was willing to help me with the backgrounds. I was quite dissapointed because Jess didnt look at the animatic for the different layouts and different perspectives. I continued to develop my layouts as i was trying to edit different pieces of work but received nothing.

From the Animatic i did some Background designs based on this colour palette :













By the time i had finish these Jess had only managed to do two Backgrounds and i was very dissapointed. As she was still the Background artist we have kept her work but hopefully include my layouts with the proper perspective in the Odeon Cinemas.

After Christmas

From Storyboard 5, me and the group came up with different character designs and character's back story. Here are the designs i created:

Before Christmas

First Three Weeks
In the first three weeks of the project, We as a group were pulling different ideas about how to approach the project. Based on Nicholes Idea. Her research was of a man who died in the Brayford lake, she wanted the man to return to the surface and showing his return home.
As a group, we were unsure about the idea because it was based around Stop motion and it seemed to be not serious. This i thought seemed heartless and we needed to take a more sensitive approach to the Project. That week we all came up with different ideas including the man in the plane. From this we all agreed to progress with Mike's Idea.
Mike's idea was A letter sent home from the man in the plane saying how he was in the war and how happy he was to becoming home. This would be as a voice over, but we'd how what happened to the man and show him not returning to his home. After a group talk we added to the piece by have a family situation, so the letter would say how he was, but images and animation would show the families reaction to him not returning home.

By this time, One week before Christmas we were still unsure about a storyboard and two members of our group had left. I felt a large responsibility for my group and acted as Director while Steven acted as Producer. We had these jobs as we both were present to group meetings and kept in close contact with each other.
